About The Chapel Hill Education Foundation…

The Chapel Hill Education Foundation (CHEF) is a non-profit corporation formed in 2003.  The purpose of CHEF is to promote scholarships in the Chapel Hill Independent School District by providing financial support, leadership and professional expertise for students and teachers to colleges, universities, and trade or technical schools and professional seminars.  In addition, the foundation provides financial support through grants to the Chapel Hill campuses for qualified educational projects.

In 2017, the Foundation awarded scholarships totaling over $22,000 to graduating seniors and $2,000 to each of the three campuses in CHISD. This is the eighth year in a row that the foundation has been able to fund scholarships to 100% of the applicants.  The foundation's scholarship recipients are evaluated on varying categories for educational assistance. One of the factors in determining scholarship recipients each year is participation in events supported by CHEF.  High School students receive points throughout the year based on participation. The foundation believes student participation is vital to our existence and allows our students to be a part of the development of the foundation for their classmates.

The Foundation would like to thank everyone who has supported the students of Chapel Hill in past years.

2019 CH Education Foundation GO BIG RED Event

In conjunction with Homecoming basketball games, the Chapel Hill Education Foundation (CHEF) held the 14th Annual GO BIG RED Event Friday (1/25) from 4-8 PM in the multipurpose facility.

GO BIG RED is the Foundation's annual fundraiser to support student scholarships and teacher grants. The event includes a come and go dinner of chicken stew or chili & tamales with dessert and a drink for $5. There is also a silent auction of items donated by many generous local businesses; winners for a iPad Pro, $500 cash, a YETI Cooler, and a Playstation 4 will be drawn near the end of the evening.

The chicken stew and chili are prepared by Chapel Hill staff, the Nor-Tex Volunteer Fire Department, and the Texas Forest Service. This year's tamales are being made by Chapel Hill Culinary Arts and Spanish classes in conjunction with CHHS family members knowledgeable in tamale making. To earn points toward scholarships, students bring desserts and ingredients for the dinner, which is also sponsored by Advantage Copy Solutions. All of the $5 dinner ticket proceeds go directly to scholarships and tickets may be purchased from students who earn points toward scholarships for selling them or at the event.

The silent auction includes about 200 items across multiple interests and categories. Feature items include: a disc wok propane cooker (sponsored by Guaranty Bank & Trust and Conroy Tractor), a one-year HVAC service agreement (from Wood A/C), breakfast for a year (from Herschel's Restaurant - Mount Pleasant, TX), two custom firepits (from the Chapel Hill Northeast FFA), and accent tables with USB charger ports (from Everybody's Furniture). Other items include: food and entertainment gift certificates and baskets, home decor and art, Chapel Hill sports memorabilia and balls signed by the current teams, and unique *student opportunities like Team Manager or Cheerleader for a Game.

The auction will open Friday at Noon online across the Handbid app. The HandBid app is available for download to your device through the Apple Store or Google Play or can be accessed at HandBid.com from you computer. Items in the auction will be available for preview online beginning Thursday morning. The auction items and physical silent auction will open at 4 PM on Friday in the multipurpose. The auction will end about 8PM on Friday evening. Credit Card, check and cash are accepted.

The raffle for the iPad Pro, $500 cash, YETI cooler and Playstation 4 is sponsored by Mount Pleasant Eye Care Center, KLC Video Security, Baxter Clean Care / Elite Rfinishers & East Texas Children's Dentistry. Tickets are $10 and are pm sale from CHHS students, who earn points from selling them, or at the event until the drawing at halftime of the Boys Varsity game. They may also be purchased across the HandBid app.

Last year, the Chapel Hill Education Foundation (CHEF) gave over $28,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors and $15,000 in teacher innovation grants. CHEF continues to work to address educational funding needs including future programs to support teacher professional development opportunities, start-up cost for instruction in new areas, and work-training & dual credit through NTCC. GO BIG RED is the primary fundraiser for supporting these programs.

The twenty member Chapel Hill Education Board is led by President Shane McNeil. Officers are: Admin VP Keith Strickland, Development VP Trent Abbott, Programs VP Susan Cicman, Promotions VP Melody Henry, and Secretary Mike Hall. Anyone who would like to assist with CHEF can contact one of the officers or the CH Business Office.
